You Need to Try These Vegan Baked Goods

September 2, 2021

They say that you can’t buy happiness...but you can buy cake.

Moreover, at our plant-based bakery in Canada, you can buy vegan cake! And pastries and cookies and frangipane tart and cinnamon buns and gluten-free scones and banana bread and sourdough and doughnuts...and the list of vegan baked goods goes on.

We thought it was about time to showcase what we sell at our humble vegan bakery to prove to you all that anything non-vegans can do, vegans can do better. Of course, if you don’t believe us, then you’ll just have to head on over to Whistler, B.C. to give everything a try, won’t you?

Until that day, feast your eyes!

Here is a selection of the best vegan baked goods that we sell in-store:

Organic Sourdough Cinnamon Buns w/ Organic Maple Glaze

vegan cinnamon buns

We had to start with this one. Our vegan cinnamon buns are known throughout the land - they certainly get a lot of attention on our Instagram account. Big, fluffy, soft, and sticky, they’re a firm favourite with our bakery customers as well.

Oh, and we create different varieties of these on a regular basis. For example, in the past, we’ve baked Jerry’s Chocolate Orange Sourdough Buns, Organic Pemberton Apple Sourdough Cinnamon Buns, and Organic Pemberton Beauty Plum Sourdough Cinnamon Buns.

We use Wild Tusker’s Ceylon Cinnamon to bake our cinnamon buns because Wild Tusker:

  • Donates towards Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage in Sri Lanka.
  • Has a core philosophy to ensure ethical and socially responsible practices.
  • Is non-GMO project certified, 100% vegan, and certified organic.
  • Use “true cinnamon” known as Ceylon, which has a very delicate texture and a more refined taste than cassia cinnamon.

And, if you’re popping into Whistler, you can pre-order your cinnamon buns here.

Dark Chocolate, Coconut, Oat + Sea Salt Cookie

It’s all about the crunch with these delicious baked vegan cookies. The dark chocolate melts in your mouth as the Vancouver Island Sea Salt stimulates the tastebuds. The addition of plant-based butter in our baked goods works wonders to provide a gorgeously flaky, tender, and chewy texture.

We use oats and house-milled red spring wheat flour that’s 100% organic to bake our sea salt cookies. Fancy soothing your soul? Watch the mesmerising video below to see how we freshly mill our own flour to use in the bakery:

You can pre-order your vegan cookies here.

Organic, Fair Trade Banana, Fig + Brazil Nut Bread

Topped with caramelised slices of “B Grade” bananas, our banana bread is next level good! B Grade means that, instead of being green and “fresh” when they get delivered, the bananas arrive in the perfect state for baking. We source our bananas from Discovery Organic, so every purchase of this vegan baked good will support sustainable agriculture, food justice, and fair working conditions for farmworkers.

What’s more, each slice of this delicious banana bread is layered with crunchy Brazil nuts, sticky figs, and pure bliss...it doesn’t get much better than this.

We often change up our bakery menu since variety is the spice of life and all that jazz. Therefore, you can’t pre-order this one! But it’s a great example of the types of baked goods we produce every week.

Organic Okanagan Peach + Whistler Lavender Scone topped w/ Brazil Nut + Oat Crumble, Cream Cheeze Frosting

A celebration of summer stone fruit!

We love experimenting with seasonal ingredients here at BReD and wow do we get some amazing local produce sent our way! This week’s mouthwatering scone has been baked with beautiful peaches from Okanagan and lavender grown in Whistler. And the cream cheeze frosting is made from vegan cream cheeze, of course.

Organic Pemberton Green Zucchini, Hazelnut + Lemon Cake Topped with Cream Cheeze Frosting

Our take on a vegetable cake, don’t you just love using veggies in baked goods? Locally-grown zucchini pairs perfectly with lemon in this soft and spongy plant-based cake, whilst the hazelnuts add a delicious crunch.

We’d love to know your favourite veg/cake combinations! Let us know by leaving a comment on our Instagram post.

Vegan Baked Goods at BReD

We’ve only shown you a small selection of what’s on offer in our vegan bakery and, as we’ve mentioned, our products often evolve with the seasons. Nevertheless, we hope it’s been enough to make you salivate and perhaps even pay us a visit!

All of our goods are baked fresh every morning and, particularly since many of our products are made using sourdough, you can be sure that the proper time and effort have been poured into their creation! In addition to being suitable for vegans, we also offer some gluten-free options, as well as baked goods suitable for other dietary requirements - simply ask what’s available when you get here or send us a message at hello@edsbred.com
